Read it and Live it

I have been reading books on the occult for fifteen years and this is the best book on self initiation that I have ever come across since Modern Magic by Donald Micheal Kraig. Mr. Christopher goes into much more depth and detail than any other author that I have read. I can tell you from personal experience that the format for change that Mr. Christopher prescribes works. If you follow the methods that he discribes you will become more human than human.

The Art of Self-Transformation and Enlightenment in the West

In his very first published book, Lyam Thomas Christopher provides a comprehensive system of self-transformation based on the Golden Dawn system which uses the Kabalistic Tree of Life as a model for spiritual awakening. The book provides a complete study and training course into Western Magic and Mysticism which, if followed properly, can lead to an enlightened state of awareness of ones existence where happiness can be derived not from material gain or social status but from the knowledge and conversation with ones Higher Self.

The very first chapter of this book provides a very good argument for the need for self-transformation and the search for spiritual enlightenment. The author shows that even with our advanced technologies, scientific advancement, longer life-span, and modern comforts there is much more suffering and misery in our world and we are even more confused about our purpose and place within the Universe. The author proposes that the reason for this unhappiness is that we have built our world around the survivalist mentality where men and women buy prosperity. We have shunned away our spiritual birthright where imagination flourishes where we can, as mortal men, can achieve realization of our immortality in exchange for the material comforts of the modern world which are all too often fleeting and temporary.

The author puts a lot of emphasis on the importance of developing a new kind of existence that rises above the survivalist mindset bent on the prestige and comfort of gaining status in our miserable and confused society. The recommended practical work provided in this book allows the student to learn and become consciously aware about the inner workings of the human psyche. This allows the student to develop an intimate relationship with his/her lower and animalistic nature not to destroy or banish it but to make it subject under the authority of the Higher and Immortal self so one can achieve happiness not in the afterlife but in the here and now within ourselves - the true Heaven on Earth.

The book offers a new perspective and approach in spiritual development within the Western Mystery Tradition. The work to be undertaken is divided into various grades or levels identical to the traditional grade system of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn from which a good portion of the teachings and practices are taken from. In each grade the author prescribes specific exercises, rituals, and assignments to be performed for a given period of time which can last anywhere between 6 months to 1 year. When done with sincerity and diligence the work will cause noticeable and significant life changes.

The author is very eloquent yet unpretentious and humble. Lyam Christopher has the ability to articulate complex psychological and spiritual concepts that can be easily understood by anyone. This book is highly recommended for beginners and advanced practitioners of magic and those who are searching for a path to enlightenment that does not require them to sell all their belongings and live in the mountains eating berries or subjecting themselves to the authority of some self-professed guru. This book should be part of every practicing magician's bookshelf.

Enjoyable

Character development is great, plots are good, but the third book has at least fifteen editing errors. Not serious enough to avoid the books but should be cleaned up. Occasionally Maggie comes across a bit childish, entitled and spoiled American. Maybe that is author's goal. I am reading the fourth in the series right now. Enjoyable "cozy" mysteries set in beautiful Provence and Paris.

A trip to France.

How wonderful to spend a few pleasant hours in France without the hassle of airline security or the long plane ride. I was able to meet some fascinating characters and by closing my eyes could see the various locales in which the stories took place. Good plots presented with characters you want to meet again. I am so glad it is a series.

Meeting Maggie and Laurent

I had so much fun meeting Maggie and Laurent in this 3 book series. I went on to read several others. They are fun, light and full of good food - makes one want to find the closest (good) French restaurant! Don't expect deep, soul searching in these books but just light and easy reading that will keep you entertained and wanting to know what Maggie will be up to next.

I'm Possessed by Luther Craig!

I loved Luther in the Redemption Series. I loved him even more in Cursed. In Possessed, I fell head over heels. R.K. Ryals has managed to take a ruthless, unapologetic demon, and turn him into one of the hottest book boyfriends ever!! Possessed is dark and full of depth. Monroe is a fabulous heroine...smart funny, brave, and bad ass! There were moments where I was on the edge of my seat, (cause Ryals can write an action scene like there's no tomorrow) times I had tears in my eyes from laughing so hard, (yeah, she's funny as hell too) moments where I was pained for the characters, and...oh yes...moments where the chemistry between Luther and Monroe was so freaking hot that I needed a glass of ice water!! I loved this book beyond words!! I was completely ruined from starting another book for days. It took me that long to wrap my head around this epic bit of awesomeness from R.K. Ryals!!

I know I say this every time but damn. Possessed is an amazing next chapter to the Thorne Trilogy! Monroe and Luther are pure fire together. Not that I had any doubts of that. I mean, it’s Roe and Thorne. Just wow.

Ellie ‘Monroe’ Jacobs had a hard six months. It had been six months since she called upon the Demon Luther and let him into her head all for the sake of freeing her family from the Demon Queen, Lilith.

But there are dark things haunting her dreams, images that didn’t belong to her but to the one that drives to possess her soul. With sleep seeming impossible and spirits that are relentlessly drawn to her, she feels she is going mad if she doesn’t find relief soon. And relief comes in the swoon worthy. Bad boy, Luther Craig.

Luther doesn’t know what it is about the blonde-haired witch but her light draws him in like a moth to a flame. He wants her. He wants to possess her. He wants her very soul. But he isn’t the only one. But what he wants more than anything is power. He craves it and he craves Monroe.

With one of her own taken by the Demon Queen, Luther and Monroe race to save what is left of her family before it’s too late. Before this war of Hell is over, one of the demons will have Monroe’s soul and reign over Hell’s domain. Monroe can only hope for the lesser of two evils.

I know you are asking yourself, well he is a demon, how swoon worthy can a Prince of hell be? How to describe the delicious Luther Craig?

“This voice was smooth. This voice was chocolate, sin and champagne. It was strawberries covered in whipped cream, and it sang to me, filling my abused head with a calmness I knew didn’t belong to me. This was the real Luther Craig…”

Yeah, kind of like that. He is sin and bad and addictive. And Monroe isn’t the only one that will fall for him. He is the ultimate bad boy. Monroe has grown so much from Cursed. She is fierce and protective and totally badass. I can’t stress enough how much I adore this series, these characters and the worlds R.K. creates. Just brilliant and I can’t wait for the final chapter in Roe and Luther’s story.

Possessed

Possessed follows the story of Monroe from Cursed, fighting to save the Ayers line, including herself and NeeCee, from all kinds of trouble (aka the demon Lilith). The stakes are raised in this installment, and I loved every minute of it. Luther is the ultimate bad boy; he and Monroe are some of my favorite characters. I'm not one to throw quotes into reviews, but I can't help it. Here's why:

"...your family seems to have a thing for shedding blood. Not that I mind that quality in a girl."

Their interactions are perfect:

He shrugged. "I might have tempted a holy woman once..."
I sighed. "You molested a nun?"
Luther grinned. "I never molested. And she wasn't a nun yet. I merely showed her the pleasures of being on the dark side."
I shook my head. "You should be caged."

Ryals does a masterful job of keeping them honest and fun in the midst of so much bad. And I won't spoil the ending for you, but the last few pages had me re-reading the entire book for it's awesomeness. Love, love, love their story and I can't wait for book three, because I'm guessing all Hell's gonna break loose ;)

The format of this "S/S in action" book has changed

The “B-58 Hustler in Action” is a big surprise to me. It is published by Squadron Signal but the inside format is completely different from the earlier S/S in Action books. There are a good number of pictures but no profile drawing and only half a page of “general” description of the B-58. The rest of the books are all pictures (with captions). Unlike earlier “in Action” format, there is no description of any sub-variants. So essentially it is just a picture book. I miss the earlier S/S in action books like the F-105 Thunderchief in Action (#185) and the B-26 Marauder in Action (#210).

I was extremely disappointed in the new format that Squadron has taken

I will echo Yip W.'s post. I was extremely disappointed in the new format that Squadron has taken, which is to make this a picture book rather than one involving pictures that enhance the text. I own over forty 'In Action" books because I am a model builder - mostly fighters and bombers. The older format gave a simplified technical and service history of the plane, which was great for those who were interested in the aircraft, but didn't understand much of the engineering terms. In addition, the older books were replete with comparative drawings of the improvements with each variation; ie., nose cones, ejection seats, rudders, etc. There is hardly any text associated with this book and absolutely no comparative drawings or 3-views. One of the major developments of the B-58 was the capsule ejection seat. There are a few photos of it, but no pictures or drawings on how it worked. I had to go online to have my questions answered.

The upside of the book is that there are many, many color photos, which is fantastic for the modeler. The downside is that if the modeler wants to deviate from the boxed kit (say make a variation), the modeler will need another resource. If Squadron would have combined both formats, color photos with text and sketches, the book would earn five stars from me.

Very nicely done, a must have for any fan of this remarkable aircraft

This book is an excellent addition to my or anyone's library of aviation books covering this remarkable aircraft. At first glance it appeared as just another picture book, light on descriptive text but that is not the case. The pictures are all excellent studies of the Hustler, clear, bright, many in color with detailed captions. I must say, a book about an airplane that first flew almost 60 years ago, that still looks futuristic today and carries an air of mystery about its short operational service life may seem not needed, it is quite the contrary. The more information disclosed about the B-58 the more one sees just how advanced and a technical marvel, not to mention an outstanding strategic weapons system the B-58 was. Many times the B-58 is ignored or overlooked in aviation articles but with this release that is remedied very nicely. Thank you Mr. Doyle.
