Excellent construction

I bought this for my 9-month-old baby, and we both enjoy reading it.

The pages are thick and sturdy, and have held up to lots of grabbing and throwing. They are also laminated, but lightly - I have had some tearing on one page where it got very wet and stuck to the other side, but other than that it still looks good.

The textures are varied enough to keep my baby interested (fuzzy, velvety, silky, shiny, rubbery, and fluffy). There are also different species of penguins.

It would be nice if there were more colors on the textured parts -- three of them are black, one is white, one is grey and one is orange. Because of that, it took several readings for my baby to "find" all of the textured parts on the page, and even now the orange "silky" one is the favorite of the book. Still, now that we are familiar with the book we enjoy all the pages.

I don't have any of the other "That's Not My…" books but this was a good introduction to the series and I recommend it for babies who like some interaction with their reading material.

Not the best in this series...

Overall, these books are great first books for babies. My daughter is 10 months old and loves them. (Her brother is a little over two years old and he likes them too.) The pages are easy for her to turn and she'll pull these books off the shelf and turn the pages all by herself. The illustrations are bright and hold her attention and she likes to explore the textures. The books are well made for touch and feel style books and are holding up well. There are six sentences per book. The cover is the beginning of the book and there are five additional two-page spreads. This book has a fuzzy tummy, velvety wings, silky head, shiny beak, rubbery feet, and fluffy baby. I love most of these books, but I rated this one three stars because although the illustrations are cute, the touch and feel textures are not great. The fuzzy tummy isn't actually made of something fuzzy. The fluffy baby sheds hair and isn't all that fluffy. The others are just kind of boring (except the velvety wings which are spectacular).

Summary: Choose another from the series, not this one.

Expected more than what we got

Having dealt with PP on the Warmachine/Hordes, I had high expectations for this book and was sadly dissapointed.

Pro:
It gives some race specific classes to help flesh out your character options with some new abilities as well. You also presented with new equipment such as weapons, jacks. They have started a foundation of doing some weapon specific combat maneuvers. Rules for crafting thralls.

Med:
There is a nice write-up on the Five Fingers, but it just material that was printed in the first book. So if you have previous IK books, this does not help you. They also added some new alchemical recipes but they are not very exciting and PC may use one or two of them. They also added a bunch of improvised weapons that doe knockout. However they all are based on PHY like the catspaw in NQ completely ignoring the mechanic presented in the core rules. The Thamarite advocate class is really neat but a bit overpowered and I think should be an NPC class only. They also lumped in a bunch of stuff (including Necromancy) which I think they could have spread out over several careers. If allowed you will have all your gifted power gamers being Thamarites to get this class.

Con:
Power creep in the classes. A lot of the race specific classes get really good abilities. The majority of them also get language. Interesting how they limited language in the core rules but gave it out to the classes here. A lot of the abilities could be backfilled into the core rule classes but they do not. No errata or Faq to help clarify the multitude of questions regarding the system so you still will have a lot of GM fiat in your games. Still no poison rules yet how to create or apply there effects.

Overall you do get some content that will enhance you gaming experience. You can leverage on a lot of the other stuff to provide content in your game but will have to do a little GM fiat / ingenuity.

Excellent addition to the Core Rules

This book adds some new careers, abilities, items, and creatures for an urban environment (hence the name!). It also gives you an excellent look into the urban environments of the world with an in depth look into Five Fingers, a port city that's a melting pot for a multitude of the different groups in the world, bound together by their freedom and independence they earned through hard work instead of noble birth. The book contains an adventure for GM's to run players within Five Fingers itself.

The world itself is amazing and full of rich detail

The highest quality RPG books I have ever seen. The pages are colourful, glossy and printed on fairly thick paper, so they appear much more durable. The game mechanics, based upon the incredible miniatures game WARMACHINE and are fast and run very smoothly. Allowing players the choice of two Careers when creating their characters allows them to add depth to their characters. The world itself is amazing and full of rich detail. The Iron Kingdoms is not a "steampunk" setting and the word does not even apply to this world. The only similarities are the fact that steam power is used, this is not an alternate-world Victorian-era setting. The writers and developers at Privateer Press have undertaken the difficult job of mixing firearms and steam power with a fantasy setting and not only made it work, but surpassed even the loftiest expectations.

The book concludes with a consideration of how more effective leaders might be developed in policing. The book blends narrative data with a review of prior leadership research to provide an understanding of why and how police supervisors link a core group of traits and habits with greater leadership efficacy.

Americans produce the most waste of any people on Earth, says Rogers, but few of us ever think about where all that trash goes. Rogers endeavors to show the inner workings of the waste stream, from the garbage truck to the landfill, incinerator or parts unknown. She points out that recycling, once touted as an environmental lifesaver, "has serious flaws," and has done little to mitigate garbage's long history of environmental damage. Rogers also includes chapters on the history of waste removal and disposal, highlighting early sanitation efforts in New York City, as well as the multi-billion-dollar, multinational business of garbage. Consistently engaging, the book delineates the myriad problems caused by the country's waste output, but offers very few concrete examples of what readers can do to improve the garbage situation; instead, Rogers stoically acknowledges that "while consumers making choices with the environment in mind is a good thing, it is in no way a real solution to our trash woes." Environmentalists, read this book!

When I purchased this book, I thought it might add to my store of trivia knowlege, sort of a fun little look at something most of us never think about. I expected to describe it with words like "nifty." This book was not what I expected, and I'm glad.

This book was an engrossing discussion of how the nature and quantity of consumer garbage (as opposed to industrial waste) has changed. Beginning with the Industrial Revolution and moving up through today, this book considers the ways in which government policy and the corporate profit motive create a socity in which garbage - lots and lots of garbage - is inevitable, and why even the best-intentioned efforts at recycling barely make a dent in the mountain of trash.

I have a professional background in economics, and so I got a great deal out of some of Rogers' arguements that were based in economic theory. However, her simple, straightforward style makes it easy for anyone to follow her reasoning.

The subtitle, The Hidden Life of Garbage, was misleading. Perhaps a better subtitle might have been The History and Social Implications of Garbage. Although that sounds a bit scholarly, this book, while extremely well researched, did not read at all like a textbook. Rather it was an approachable discussion of why garbage occurs and why the current solutions are not working.

A must-read for anyone who cares about planet Earth, whether they are chaining themselves to trees or just recycling their soda can!

Encompassing and honest

This book is honest and what I mean by that is that it looks at the impacts of waste and concepts to remove it. Some might suggest that recycling works but that is not always the case because if the industry does not purchase recycled products then it just creates a sub industry. There are not that many books that will admit that a given product can only be recycled a given number of times (plastics are referenced in it).

The book could use a bit more updating because it does not mention other aspects but that might simply be due to size constraints. For example when it references ewaste it does not fully explain that some major retailers offer recycling. Infact with given commodity prices some might actually pay people to take it away. The book does drop the ball a bit on RoHS. The RoHS concept of course attempts to eliminate lead from electronics but this is controversial as the replacements for it do not always conduct power the same way. This has resulted in the so called "red ring of death" with Microsoft Xbox 2 as well as created higher prices which some might argue are a form of class warfare.

It does note that solutions for problems create their own problems. Horses as a means of transit meant animal wastes all over the place. Cars replaced that with their own wastes. Likewise we should be careful that we do not have future issues. Incandescant light bulbs are horrid in terms of power consumption as most of the output is not in light but as heat. LED's produce much less heat and last longer but if it is used as a traffic light during the winter it can be rendered useless.

This book is easy to read, flows very well and clearly outlines its' content and case-by-case accounts. . Excellent resource for any student studying the impact garbage has on our environment - it was required reading for an Environmental Science college class and it would definitely meet the needs of most similar class curriculum's (i.e. Sustainability etc). It's also a personal eye-opener for anyone wondering where our trash goes and how corporations should take responsibility regarding their 'trash'. As human populations explode, one day there will be be more billions of tons of trash with no place to put it and the very real problem of disposing of such (especially non-biodegradable items) will be an epidemic concern. You owe it to yourself to read this book.

About the Author
Lance M. King has a Master of Business Administration from the Marriott School of Management at Brigham Young University. He spent nearly a decade at FranklinCovey helping to develop and promote principle-centered leadership. Lance enjoys developing simple, sustainable solutions to complex problems, and has spent the last five years applying those skills in the area of complex computer systems and data centers. Lance created a high-density, high-efficiency data center that won a best-practices award at the ComputerWorld SNW Spring 2011 conference. Like so many others, Lance prefers to define success in life not by the amount of money made or the number of things acquired, but rather by the number of people he can help to live better, more fulfilling lives. An excellent reminder and call to action

I read many books and, until now, I have not publicly shared a review on any of them. In that respect, "Democracy 2.0" has placed me in unfamiliar territory. It touched a nerve and made me restless; I feel I have to share my thoughts broadly. My hope is that this book will have a similar effect on others -- enough others that we can collectively wake up and become active participants in shaping our government and our nation, so that we and our progeny may enjoy a good quality of life for generations to come.

My high school government class was a long time ago, and many of the facts I once learned about Democracy 1.0 were recalled to my memory by reading the first part of this book. For that, it was an excellent reminder. As good as that was, the real resonance for me was the call to action in the second part of the book. I was reminded that our government is "me" and "we", not merely "them". Especially timely in this election year is the reminder that the strength of our government (our nation) is a clear reflection of the strength and participation of the individuals within our nation. It starts with the individual; we ought to take inventory of our own values and convictions, strengthen ourselves where we are weak, and take an active role shaping our government. Mr. King also shares some intriguing and refreshingly sensible ideas for reforming some of our government processes. These concepts and ideas are at the core of Democracy 2.0. I would love to read more in-depth discussion of these new concepts (perhaps the content of a future book, "Democracy 2.0 HD"?).

Mr. King has used a comfortable and engagingly conversational tone to deliver an important message. It's a quick read, but will spawn profound and long-term thinking.

In the interest of full disclosure, Mr. King is a friend and colleague, and he gave me my first copy of the book. Now that I've read the book, I'm sharing additional copies of this book (this time on my dime) with others whom I perceive as caring deeply about our nation. If you're currently apathetic or cynical about government, this book can make you care and realize that you're part of the solution. If you're already awake to such thinking, this will add fuel to your fire. Read this book and be improved.

Great plan for the future of Democracy in the USA

This is a great read with a great plan to help democracy move forward in the USA. Some of the things I like best are the ISE Accounts this would shift power out of Washington and back to the people. How he points out that Democracies don't go to war with other Democracies. That Democracies create the most innovation then any other civilizations. He also introduces some new thinking that you surely will never here come out of a politicians mouth that can really solve some of our current problems in the USA. And last but not least that democracies need leaders and the people to have principles to succeed long term.

A Quick, Razor-Sharp, Must Read!

I found the text of this book to be almost like a knife cutting through the agenda-based mainstream media. The author puts the cold hard facts of history right up against the current situation of our country in a seemingly effortless collection of short chapters.

How could one not be intrigued by a first paragraph that starts with this warning from the author "First, let me be abundantly clear: this book has nothing to do with any movement, ideology, religious persuasion or political party..."

Not only worth the read, but worth passing along to friends and family alike-

About the Author
Trent Mongero has been coaching high school baseball for more than 20 years, shattering 22 school records in the past three seasons at North Hall High School. In 1995, ESPN broadcast his team's defeat of the USA Today number-one-ranked team in the country. He has also developed 12 players who have signed professional contracts and more than 85 who have gone on to play college baseball. A former professional baseball player and 1989 conference “Player of the Year,” Mongero played Division I baseball at UNC-Wilmington, where he was voted onto the “All-Decade” team. He has also instructed at top college camps, including the University of South Carolina (2010 and 2011 Division I National Champions). A resident of Gainesville, GA, he is currently an associate scout for the Boston Red Sox and recently launched the Winning Baseball Academy, which brings elite baseball instruction to anyone, anywhere in the US.

I Can Teach Baseball now!!! Thanks Winning Baseball

When my son was starting baseball, I bought every baseball resourse available on the market to help me help my son. I was tired of hearing that moms could not effectively coach their sons in baseball. The thing was, I did not want to coach him, I wanted to prepare him for what he needed in games and practice. To improve. Well every book left me with my eyes crossed. That is until I purchased the fist book in the "Winning Baseball" series by Trent Mongero. His book, DVD, and photos helpd me gain the confidence I needed to teach skills and drills to my son and his friends. Because of Winning Baseball my son has made his teams, played every game, and made his all-star team the past two years.

Well my son is now 12 and we just bought "Winning Baseball-Intermediate to College". I love it! Great as I expected it would be! I'm now ready to give him things he won't even get from his travel ball coaches. To all you moms out there, if you get this book, you will be showing up all the dads! But don't tell them our secret. Can't wait for book 3 in the series. We are headed to the cages now to work on some hitting drills.

I am only giving this book five stars because I cannot give it ten or more.

This is by far the best baseball instructional book series I have read, and I own an entire 6-foot book case of them as well as having borrowed countless from the library.

It figures that a UNCW Seahawk would be the one behind such a quality product. The quality of their college baseball program far surpasses their budget or the size of the college, as they show time and again that they can stand toe-to-toe with the Texases and LSUs of the world.

I bought the book not realizing that Trent Mongero was the author, but only buying it based off the positive reviews. When I opened the book and watched the DVDs, I was shocked to be looking at Brooks Field, UNCW's ballpark, my alma mater, but also to be looking at Coach Trent, one of the best coaches (along with Coach Mark Scalf) I ever had. He was one of my coaches year after year at UNCW baseball camps, which I attended every year from the time I was 8 until I was 16. Those camps improved my game and my knowledge and my ability to explain the small nuances and subtleties of baseball and its mechanics exponentially. Every year I exited the summer camps as at least 3 times the player I was when I entered.

What Coach Mongero shares with you in these books is a comprehensive view what is shared with gifted and fortunate young ballplayers at the world's greatest camps. You will not find a better baseball coach. You will not find a book series that explains so much as this one. You will not find a book series that explains so well as this one. Anyone blessed enough to have had Coach Mongero as one of their coaches can tell you the difference between him and almost any other coach you will encounter in life. And anyone who has had him can tell you that he poured his all into this book series and he nailed it. God bless you, Coach Mongero. The game needs more like you.

Not only will this make you a better player... if you truly absorb this info and understand it and share it, it will make you a superior coach. You will understand things seemingly nobody else understands. Only one word of warning, and I do mean this in a serious way: if you coach with the tools and info Coach Mongero shares with you in this book, other coaches will be intimidated and spiteful of your skills and knowledge. You'll be exposing their lack of knowledge, and they may not take kindly to that. Good ole' boy networks that unfortunately exist in some levels of the game and in some regions may make you their target. Don't let that discourage you from improving the state of the game, which Coach Mongero is helping to do by publishing this book. Be warned, but also be grateful that this resource exists, which will allow more people to go out as knowledgeable and skilled players and coaches and raise the bar in our national pastime.

Both books are a must!

Both of Trent Mongero's books are a must own. No matter if you are new to coaching/playing baseball or if you are a seasoned veteran. There are some great tips and techniques he goes over. The DVD's are of great picture and sound quality and will not leave you second guessing what is expected from each drill. I am a varsity baseball coach, and even after so many years of my specific drills, I started utilizing quite a few of Coach Mongero's drills in my practices. These tips and drills are tried and true!
